This document is designed to provide Internode users with the Internode supported configurations for the Billion 6404 and 740x series of VoIP routers:
- The Billion 6404VP and 6404VGP are Ethernet VoIP routers, and used on Internode Wireless DSL broadband services.
- The Billion 7402VGP, 7401VGP-M, 7404VGP-M and 7404VGO-M are ADSL VoIP routers, and used on Internode ADSL and ADSL2+ broadband services.
When to use this guide
Please note that all Billion equipment sold by Internode is pre-configured. Hence in most cases, you should simply need to follow the connection process (step 1).
The rest of this guide may be useful when:
- you have performed a factory reset, and hence need to completely reconfigure the device (steps 2 to 5);
- you have purchased the device from someone else, and hence need the supported Internode configuration (steps 2 to 5);
- you are adding NodePhone to a device that you have previously purchased from Internode (steps 4 & 5);
- you wish to update the firmware (step 2); or
- you wish to change the NodePhone configuration - for example, so that all outbound calls are made via NodePhone in the case of Naked ADSL2+ services (step 2).
Step 1 : Connecting the Billion router
The first step when setting up your new 6404 or 740x is to ensure it is plugged in correctly.
- Connect your phone line to the Line port on your ADSL splitter.
- Connect a telephone cable from the ADSL Modem port on the ADSL splitter, to the ADSL port on the back of the router (740x series only).
- Connect one end of the supplied Ethernet cable to the network card on your computer, and the other end to any of the LAN ports on the back of the router.
- To enable NodePhone, connect your telephone handset or cordless telephone base station to the Phone 1 port.
- To enable the 'failover & incoming PSTN calls' feature with NodePhone, connect a telephone cable from the Local Phone port on the splitter to the Line port on the back of the router. If you do not use this feature (eg because you have no analog telephone service), you must ensure that you set up your Billion with the 'VoIP Only' configuration - see Step 2.
- Plug the power supply in to a 240V AC outlet and connect it to the back of the router.
- Switch on the device.

Additional Information
Enabling DTMF
Please refer to this page to enable DTMF on older Billion
routers (sold by Internode prior to April 2007). DTMF is used to access
the Nodephone2 Voicemail system, for example.
Advanced Users Only
If you're familiar with configuring your Billion, you may wish to
manually set the dial plan information (instead of using our approved
configuration files). These instructions are located here.
