Sometimes, if you are reporting suspect, abusive or offensive items of
e-mail, we may request that you send us a copy of the offending e-mail
with full headers.
The FULL HEADERS are lines of information at the start of an e-mail message which identifies where the mail came from - when you see a message normally, these are abbreviated to just show things like; Sender; Recipient; Date; Subject.. the FULL HEADERS reveal a lot more to help us track the message and find its sender - even if sometimes they might try to alter or 'forge' this header information.
If we ask that you send us the e-mail in question, with FULL HEADERS, the following describes how to do this.
Netscape Messenger 4.x (Windows and Macintosh)
- Double-click the message in question in your inbox
to open it in a new window.
- Go to the View menu, select Headers, and select
All from the submenu. The message's full headers will appear.
- Use your mouse to highlight the entire message
including the headers. Select Copy from the Edit menu.
- Click here.
- Place your mouse cursor in the large blank box titled "4.Please describe your request or enquiry in the space provided
below".
- Go to the Edit menu and choose Paste.
- Fill in the rest of the support form with an appropriate
subject line and click on the 'Submit this Request' button.
Microsoft Outlook Express (Windows)
- In your Inbox, right-click on the message in question
and select Properties from the pop-up menu.
- Click Details in the window that appears.
- Right-click anywhere inside the Internet headers
for this message field and choose Select All from the pop-up menu.
- With the text highlighted, right-click your mouse
in the field again and select Copy.
- Click OK to close the window.
- Click here.
- Place your mouse cursor in the large blank box titled "4.Please describe your request or enquiry in the space provided
below".
- Go to the Edit menu and choose Paste.
- Fill in the rest of the support form with an appropriate
subject line and click on the 'Submit this Request' button.
Microsoft Outlook Express (Macintosh)
- Double-click the message in your inbox to open
it in a new window.
- Go to the View menu, and choose Internet Headers.
- The headers will appear in a small window. Click
anywhere inside this window, go to the Edit menu, and choose Select All.
- Go back to the Edit menu and select Copy.
- Click here.
- Place your mouse cursor in the large blank box titled "4.Please describe your request or enquiry in the space provided
below".
- Go to the Edit menu and choose Paste.
- Fill in the rest of the support form with an appropriate
subject line and click on the 'Submit this Request' button.
